Two-day Fast-Track designed for vets familiar with the basics of ultrasound.
This course has been developed for vets who are doing basic ultrasonography and want to progress to the next level. It is an ideal follow on from the Introduction to Ultrasound Fast Track course.
Program
Over this Fast Track weekend, you will learn the ‘next steps’ in ultrasonography. This course will see you becoming fully familiar with scanning the normal anatomy and becoming comfortable with a detailed exam.
The program includes various tips and techniques from our imaging specialist on the landmarks to identify the pancreas, adrenal glands, peritoneal lymph nodes and more advanced scanning of the gastrointestinal tract. Follow-up scanning of the spleen, hepatic and urogenital systems is also covered.
Participants will have the opportunity to practice the use of Doppler for examination of larger abdominal blood vessels.
Phantom scanning and the opportunity to learn more about invasive ultrasound diagnostics and practice biopsy techniques are also covered.
Point of care ultrasound techniques (POCUS) will be discussed and practiced, including AFAST, TFAST and VetBLUE screening techniques.
Both days include practical ‘hands-on’ scanning, accompanying notes and resources and the opportunity to liaise closely with the internal medicine and imaging specialist involved.
Please note: Next Steps in Ultrasound is for those who have the general examination techniques and may have just mastered the fundamentals of abdominal ultrasound. Ideally this course is a follow on from the earlier Introduction to Abdominal Ultrasound. The following topics will have already been covered in the Introductory weekend – the physical principles of ultrasound; options for machine types – choosing a machine; machine set-up and the basics of the abdominal examination
